This document forms part of the project handover documentation and should be retained within the Building H&S File.

5. Operation Instructions

5.1 Wall & Floor Tiles

Routine Cleaning
  • Use mild, non-abrasive alkaline cleaner
  • Avoid acid-based cleaners unless diluted
Descaling
  • Use proprietary limescale remover
  • Do not use hydrochloric acid products
Maintenance Frequency
  • Weekly cleaning in residential use
  • More frequent in high-use environments

5.2 Sanitaryware (WC & Basin)

  • Do not use abrasive powders
  • Avoid strong acids
  • Use diluted descaler where required
  • Clean regularly to prevent build-up

5.3 Brassware

  • Clean with soft cloth and mild soap
  • Dry after use to prevent limescale
  • Remove aerator periodically for descaling

5.4 Shower & Floor Drain

  • Keep trap water-sealed
  • Remove hair/debris regularly
  • Clean trap every 3–6 months (or as required)

5.5 Extract Vent

  • Vacuum dust from vent face
  • Do not adjust airflow cone without mechanical contractor approval

5.6 Silicone & Sealants

  • Inspect annually
  • Expected lifespan: approx. 5 years
  • Replace if mould or shrinkage occurs

5.7 Painted Surfaces

  • Wipe clean with damp cloth
  • Repaint as required using equivalent specification
